Understanding And Function DNS
Understanding And Function DNS - Domain Name System (DNS) is a system where
information of domain names and host names are stored in database form. DNS
will provide the IP address of each host and domain name. It can be concluded
that DNS is a name used to transmit server IP addresses. In other words DNS
will change the IP address into a domain name, for example:
www.google.co.id, www.facebook.com
and others.
DNS function on
computer network
DNS has a
function to facilitate users in memorizing and accessing a particular web
server address. Someone will find it difficult to memorize every IP address of
a particular web server. For example on google.com, www.google.com has an IP
address 74.125.200.101, users will be easier to memorize a domain name
www.google.com rather than memorizing the IP address.
DNS is used for
domain name services to complete the request of website names to IP addresses
in order to find computer services and devices worldwide.
According to
Blogger Ecgalery, Prior to the use of DNS, computer networks used HOSTS files
that contained information from the computer's name and IP address. On the
Internet, this file is managed centrally and in every loaction must be copied
to the latest version of HOSTS files, from here it can be imagined how much
trouble if there is addition of one computer in the network, then we must copy
the latest version of this file to every location.
With the growing
Internet network, of course this will be inconvenient. Then a solution is
created where DNS is designed to replace HOSTS files, with unlimited database
size, and good performance.
The basic
principle of DNS
Domain Name
System (DNS) is used as a network name search engine that uses TCP / IP
(Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol). DNS is usually used in
certain applications connected to Internet networks such as web browsers and
web mail, where DNS will help the user in mapping the host name of a computer
to the ip address.
